Ever since Typhoon Ondoy destroyed my backwall, a stray cat has been preying on my poor finches for the past 3 nights. Monday morning (Oct 5) a zebra finch was found dead. Its' wings gone. Yesterday morning, only the head of a young Gouldian Finch was left. Its' sibling was gone. I dunno how many more has this darn cat took, since I can't do an inventory bec. most of my finches are now kept together since the typhoon, for easier management.

This predicament added to my stress level! Booohooo!sob!sob!

Now here comes my hero. Fuji, my ever reliable pet dog was out of his cage late afternoon yesterday, to do his thing. And this bold cat was roaming around my garage, maybe to check out his dinner later. When Fuji spotted the intruder, all hell broke loose and a riot ensued. All the carpenters mending my wall had a Pacquiao vs Hatton replay fight... Well, I guess you know who won. The vanquished is never to be seen again. Thanks Fuji. Now I can have a better night sleep.

idol ko talaga yang si fuji sir. eversince na nakita ko yan alam ko na very loyal na alaga yan. nung una medyo natakot din ako . . . pero sigurado that it will defend you and your love once with all his might. ang galing talaga ng belgian mo sir. mana sa amo e si lica musta naman?

Muntik na naman may maupakang pusang umaaligid-aligid sa ibonan ko si Fuji the other day.ang laki ng pusa, tomcat cgurado ito. mabuti at nalagyan na ng hollow blocks yung garahe ko. yung sa garden almost 80% finished na ang wall. Mabuti si Leica pina alaga ko muna sa friend ko bago bumaha.


I hope matapos na yung wall ko, 'di pa kasi napapalitadahan. para ma set up ko na uli mga kulungan ng mga beloved birdies ko.

Just went to Mang Orly's pet shop yesterday to get some needed supplies. (tinangay kasi ng baha yung mga drinking tubes ko at yung bagong Orlux vitamins, waaaa!)

ang 25 grams ng Fertivit is P80!!! (tingi muna ako ngayon)I also bought some cuttlebone since the old ones are contaminated already by the flood.

my finches are itching to breed but my aviary is not yet set up. yung mga ibang alaga ko nasa loob na ng bahay! I hope my other finches that I placed together in a cage will bear with me for a few days more.

in spite of these hassles, I found out that my therapy to this chaotic, energy sapping, financially stressing, psychologically disturbing, emotionally draining disaster was bird keeping.

Thank You Lord for these wonderful creatures You made.

I just discovered this morning, while we where washing the cages, that a couple of my 17 x 30's are missing. One is where I put my juvenile gouldian finches, the other is where I keep my zebras. the third, the breeding cages ng my OB zebras. maybe those cages are still at the bottom of the swamp. I just hope I can retrieve it back when the swamp dries up.

Just imagine my barbell weighing around 80 lbs washed away by the flood, how much more the lighter cages!!!

I also cringe whenever I would recall my precious parrots were only couple of inches away from death. As the wall collapsed, their cages were almost completely submerged by the water and they were just hanging on to dear life. half of their body was already submerged in water!

The wall in the garage is now completely finished. Its reinforced and much stronger than before. I hope I could set the cages up by weekend.

Kitchie and I felt like a newbie setting up the cages this morning. We were excited to place the finches in their new cages. I hope they would like the set up we made and for them to settle soon.
